Day 7 – So who’s in charge?

The following post is from a series of emails I wrote to my girlfriend at the time, whilst on a trip to Africa. She is now my wife, so I did something right.

So, to fill you in on how things are here; the church I am visiting split. Its always difficult to point a finger, I just know I will miss the Pastor Matthew; who I deeply respect. Its caused a lot of pain and bitterness, but a new church has been formed from many of the friends I made previously. Its pretty small.

The way its really impacting me is that Edwin, the brother-in-law of the pastor, and CEO of Tshwaranang has left Harrismith. Various reasons, but I think the loss of his spiritual church home was a big one.

He has moved to Pretoria, and I believe he is doing well there. However, the charity is floundering without his leadership. Some of its initiative has gone, some work has been taken on by another charity, and my friend Mohau, who is running it, feels he is not the go getting type of person needed to run things; he is a worker, not a leader.

If only there was someone around with the ability to get things done, to organise, to have the ideas….

So yeh, I’m trying to help, I’m trying to throw in some cool ideas, not tread on any toes, and I may end up working for these guys back in England.

Sorry this is so short. I will see you soon!

Love you,

PS. John 8:36 (It’s inspired the name of the new church out here…)

  1. well it’s raining here, again and its also rather cold.

im so proud of you and what you’re doing out there – sounds like a lot of work but also very rewarding. (make sure you dont make it your burden alone, esp when u come back here – u have enough to be getting on with! but i will help you if its what God wants)

im so used to ringing randomers now with the whole car situation i could organise anything!
as for the car…i rang the christian dude and he doesnt do bodywork. he recommended someone who when i found was like iranian or something but sounds cool. he said to bring the car in on monday, which would be fine if it was my car. i have a feeling it’s going to be difficult trying to convince the man to take the car to this random garage. so do i just give in to his wants or fight for my money to goto a decent cause? i.e. me/form.
so its all a bit bum. i just want it to go away. i also dont want to give my address to him or anything if he asks 2mo. if he rings his insurance company or gets it repaired and asks for money then im refusing to pay – is that too harsh of me? i just dont want to be taken for a ride.

other than that constantly on my mind (i even dreamt about it last night) im not doing badly. it was nice talking to you (ish) this morning. i hope i can hear you sometime soon. im going through a time of growth which involves cracking so its gonna unsettle me a little. God has been good so far!

i love you and have been thinking about our wedding day. im looking forward to it lots.

i found out your flight details…would you like to know? hehe. you are catching a plane at 21.10pm on the 21st feb and arriving at heathrow at 6.30am the next day. is Dan picking you up? wish i could come see you but will just have to wait until the sat and your return to sheffield (that is when you’re coming back right?)

i love you huggle buggle and think about you all the time!

hugs and kisses (on the cheek)

  2. I would fight it, but be careful, because he can just claim through your insurance if he doesn’t like you.

I miss you, but I also wish you could just be here to help me.

    Not having internet sucks!
