Chris Coffee Laptop One Half

I am now halfway through 2019! Well, actually a bit more than that, but I was slow getting round to penning this post. Today I finally sat down – with a vegan cappuccino in Powered By Plants – and got some thoughts out.

At the beginning of the year, I set myself some overly ambitious goals. Of course, its August now, and so, of course, *spoilers* I’ve failed to meet some of them. Maybe even most of them.

Religion vs Jesus (video)

I don’t pretend to have all the answers to Christianity, but I often find church a distraction, Christians a frustration, and – more importantly – antithetical to many of Jesus’ statements. This video makes that point fairly admirably.

Also, from a purely aesthetic perspective, there is some beautiful flow and rhyme in this, with great visuals, and a subtle but supportive typographical underlay. If that’s your sort of thing…

Removing my bushel

So, as you probably know, myself and Katherine are currently on holiday in Corralejo. We have been here about a week and a half, and go home on Wednesday.

Before we set out, we vaguely looked up churches in Fuerteventura, and discovered, to our mild surprise, that there is an English fellowship in the town of Corralejo itself. Faros Christian Fellowship meets each Sunday in the building of a Spanish evangelical church.

Day Twenty Four – God’s Patience

Sunday. My last time at church. And the old pastor, Matthew, who I think is a fantastic preacher, was there. It was all good, and the preach was fun but good. Based heavily on the current power shortages, the idea that people and churches without God are like light switches without power. You can go through the motions, but ultimately nothing happens.

One bit he talked about was the story of when he went to get his driving license renewed. He turned up and was told he needed his photo taken. He was sent in a direction, so he walked that way. Soon enough he came to a man, sitting under a tree. The man said “photo?”, then jumped up and took a picture with a digital camera. Then he just ran away.
