The following post is from a series of emails I wrote to my girlfriend at the time, whilst on a trip to Africa. She is now my wife, so I did something right.
I am changing the time on this blog, so it posts as the time in South Africa.
So, I am starting to have an idea of my purpose. I am going to be working with two charities; Tshwaranang, and a new project in connection with them – the Good News Project. Expect websites and photos soon!
I have met up with nearly all my old friends now, and have eaten meat twice! I already think I’ve lost weight, due to my new diet – no second portions, except of green veg and rice, no chocolate and no cheese.
I am exercising too, and also sweating like a horse – its so hot here, and the sun isn’t even properly up yet. I got up at 6 this morning – and I was the late one in my house. My little flat is amazing – expect a video soon too.
Last night was so good too – I met up with Faye for the evening, and it was like we had last seen each other last week – the 18 month gap was as if it never where. It was great to see her, and we got a real feeling of it being God’s provision – I so nearly didn’t get to see her.
Everyone here knows me as the “English dude who slept in the dog kennel”. It’s quite funny. Best thing – the house I’m staying at has two dogs; A border collie crossed with huskie, and a labrador/border collie cross! So cool. They are pretty untrained, so I’m enjoying attempting to resolve that. I don’t think my hosts expect me to have much luck!
I am having a birthday Braai (BBQ) next Saturday. I wish you could come.

its sounds great there. im very pleased and relieved that you’re ok so far. im working tonight and wont be back till gone 10.30 i imagine. will u be asleep? isnt it an hour later over there? will u be able to chat before hand? is start work at 6.30.

thought id update you.
so today has been alright i spose – i got a lie in woop! then had Bobs then had interview for cleaning job at phili which i didnt get cos i couldnt do the hours they wanted (although i could have fitted it round my work) and they wanted someone for a year so thats that. not too bothered. think it would have been rather boring – 12 hours for like half that times work.
Goldsborough rang to see how i were which was nice of them (!)
rang the owner of the car i bashed and he was alright gonna meet up with him on sat with davina and hopefully Rom or other car mechanic to assess the damage of the car and see if im getting ripped off. not sure i really want to see it.
(ive just washed my hands and they still smell of wee! nice)
then had work this eve with Krystle – she’s a nice another girl. had to more people to do but did it all in really good time. one new guy who used to weigh 17 stone now only weighs 7 and looks like hes been in auschwitz, it was a terrible sight.
right im off to bed.
